Although most tourists visit Italy in spring or summer, we at Polmone Turismo Verde think autumn is perhaps the most beautiful period.

In Umbria, where we live, the temperature is often still very pleasant until at least late November. And especially for those who like to do something besides relaxing. Like taking beautiful walks through a golden landscape and enjoying nature preparing for winter. Most towns and villages are much quieter than in spring and summer but certainly not deserted. Many restaurants adapt their menu to the season, which often results in very tasty dishes in autumn. Sagas, local festivities around a region or village or a specific product, are also still organised in autumn and are great fun and especially very interesting for the bourgondiër (and what Italy lover is not) to go to.
It is no coincidence that, before we took over Polmone Turismo Verde in 2022, we were very regular guests of the previous owners and always in autumn or winter. Walking during the day and then having a nice lunch in a beautiful old town and then in the evening, sitting in an easy chair with a snack and a good book, falling asleep next to the wood stove. Umbria in autumn, a relaxing holiday doesn't have to be complicated.
And if you really want to do something active and special: some of our acquaintances in the area welcome you to come and help pick grapes in September or olives in October/November. And then, of course, provided with a delicious Italian lunch!

For walkers, we have a number of short and long walks plotted on Strava and Komoot. And every winter we add a few new ones to the range.
If you are more into touring than walking, or want to combine the best of both worlds then take our convertible for a day. In the summer months it is too hot for most to drive open but in the other months it is great, and especially in the afternoon with the golden yellow autumn light, an open roof is really an attraction!
Italy in autumn. Highly recommended!
